Practical questions

An erection questionnaire score is not a diagnosis

An erection questionnaire can help describe symptoms consistently, but a score is not an explanation of their cause. It cannot certify fertility, determine whether a relationship is healthy or decide which medicine is safe. Use the result to open a focused conversation, not to label yourself from an online calculator.

Check what the questionnaire actually asks

Ask which tool is being used, the period it refers to and how to handle questions that do not match your recent activities. A period without attempted intercourse is not automatically evidence of failed erections. Answer honestly rather than repeatedly retaking a test to obtain a reassuring number. This article does not reproduce or replace a validated questionnaire or its official scoring instructions.

Add the context a number cannot hold

Tell the clinician whether the difficulty is new, intermittent, painful or specific to a situation. Include medical conditions, medicines, sleep and emotional concerns. Explain which questions were unclear or inapplicable. Diagnosis combines history, examination and selected investigations; a questionnaire cannot replace those steps or distinguish physical from psychological contributors by itself. Bring any previous score with its date and context, not just a severity label.

Use follow-up to assess useful change

If the team uses a score again, discuss whether your activities and circumstances were comparable. A change may help track symptoms but does not automatically prove a treatment caused improvement or that the underlying condition is resolved. Agree meaningful goals such as comfort, confidence and function, and ask when persistent symptoms need another review. Do not change prescribed treatment merely to improve a score.

Common questions

Can the score tell me the cause?

No. It summarises reported symptoms; medical history, examination and selected tests address possible causes.

Does a good score rule out pain?

No. New pain, curvature or injury needs its own assessment regardless of a questionnaire result.

Should I repeat it every day?

Repeated checking can become unhelpful. Use the interval and purpose agreed with the clinician.

Questions before arranging an appointment?

Enquire about the next steps and availability. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or diagnosis and is not an emergency service.
