Practical questions
Penile implants: a function decision, not enlargement
A penile implant is an operation intended to provide erection support for selected people with erectile dysfunction. It is not a cosmetic enlargement shortcut or a promise to restore every aspect of sexual function. The decision should follow an individual review of alternatives, surgical risks and expectations.

Explain why surgery is being discussed
Ask which non-surgical options were tried, whether use or tolerability was reviewed and why surgery is now reasonable. You do not need to choose an operation because another treatment was inconvenient once. Discuss the goal in practical terms: firmness for an agreed activity is different from desire, sensation, ejaculation or fertility. Ask which of these the proposed operation can realistically affect.
Discuss the device and long-term responsibilities
Ask the surgeon to explain the proposed implant type, how it is operated, infection and mechanical-failure risks, and what a revision might involve. Include hand dexterity, previous pelvic operations and general health. Request an honest explanation of expected appearance and any limits on length. A consent conversation should not rely on before-and-after marketing or another patient’s satisfaction.
Get a written recovery and problem plan
Confirm who handles wound concerns, when device training happens, when sexual activity may resume and which symptoms require urgent care. Ask about later access to assessment if the device becomes painful or stops functioning. Costs, device availability and the surgeon’s credentials require direct verification; this guide confirms none of them. Take time to understand the lasting nature of implant surgery before consenting.
Common questions
Does an implant treat low desire?
It supports erection mechanics; desire has other influences that may need their own assessment.
Is it an enlargement operation?
Do not treat an erectile prosthesis as a guarantee of increased cosmetic length or girth.
Can I choose from an online review alone?
No. Personal suitability, surgical counselling and realistic long-term follow-up are essential.
